April 2006

Team 71 seizes racing activity for 2006.

We at Team 71 are obligated to stop racing for 2006 and possible beyond. The cost of racing Legends was greater than we were able to spare for Racing. We also lacked sponsorship for 2006, and the Legend was technically beyond Car owner Peter Huender's ability to maintain.
"It is sad that Kyle's racing career has to suffer because of this, but since we got the Legend we have had a very poor Fun to dollar ratio. We only have driven maybe little over 100 laps and spend well over 12,000 dollars. We are missing the almost care free racing the Bandolero provided. I have very little car mechanical knowledge, and the Legend just is above what I can comprehend and keep the car save for the driver is a bigger fear than the excitement to keep racing", said Peter Huender, Kyle dad.

"We are not opposed to see Kyle race for a team, with the proper technician or crew chief and sponsorship.Or even return to Bandos for selected races if cars are available, Team 71 is just retiring and selling its racing assets", Peter continued,

Kyle started racing in 2001 in Bandoleros. In 2002 he won the Nevada Bandolero Bandits championship, and finished 7th in the Bullring points. In 2003 Kyle was 5th in the Silver state road racing championship, and was runner up in the Bullring points championship. In 2004 he finished 3rd in the Rod course races, and took 4th in the Bullring points. That year he switched to legends but wrecked hard, and did not return till the following summer. Kyle has 8 Bullring event wins.

For more info feel free to contact Peter or Kyle.

Engine at the shop!

The 71 team has send the engine to get fixed, a broken starter chain and should have the engine back before the seasons start.
We have not participated in the Silver state Road course season, the first time in four years.

The season at the bullring starts March 25th 2006.

Fall 2005

Season comes to an end!

The season unfortunately over for the 71 team, sidelined with the broken engine, we were not able to compete any more or gain points. We ended up 21st in Bullring track points.

We are looking to get a new engine for 2006 season, this depending on us acquiring a sponsor, that may share the cost of the new engine, and racing expenses.
We are open to any offers, and hope to run the full 2006 season at the Bullring. At this time we are not planning to run the road course season.

August 2005,
Burned out starter causes Havoc

We drove the August 5th race with the new set up. The car was much looser coming out, but Kyle liked it. He spun three times that night, the final time his car had to be dragged off. It would not restart.
He finished 7th in his division that night, 18th out of the field. But the damage was done.
The starter was fried, Legends have no reverse, and spinning if the clutch is not presed immediately can damage the starter. The starter also had done more damage inside de engine.
The chain that drives the crankshaft had broken...the engine would need to be taken apart.

The 71 car is done for this season. Hopefully with some sponsorship behind us for next season we can become more competetive now that the car has a good set up, and minor changes can make it a fast car.
A spare engine certainly will be welcomed.

July 2005

JULY SUMMER HEAT BREAK, and LOVELADY SETS UP CAR

Tom Lovelady of Lovelady Racing, former Bando mate and Legend driver and Three time winner in the Super Late Models was approached to set up Kyles Car.
He generously accepted, and we were more than pleased as the car really had a mind of its own in the last races.

Tom put the car on scales, and put a great set up on it, changing shocks and springs, we picked the car up just before the practice after the July Break.

June 2005,

Kyle Races in Tucson

Kyle was on vacation in Tucson but a gracious invite from Jimmy Link and John Gannis persuaded him to bring his racing gear and step in the 01 dark green metallic and silver 34 Coupe.
Kyle drove in a heat and the main event, finishing 6th in the heat and 10th in the main. The race was cut short by a terrible accident between the #7 of Stevie Sussex III and Hank Payton in the #1x. Hank Payton had to be cut from the legend and flown to the hospital in critical condition.

Kyle had a great time, and likes to thank Jimmy Link and John Gannis for the wonderful opportunity, and the friendship that the Tucson teams share between oneanother. great sportmanship and friendship.

June 2005,

KYLE returns to Practize

The last week of may 2005 Kyle returned to Friday practice and completed about 20-25 laps in the Legend. Then again he raced in practice on Friday June 3rd.Hitting laps in the lower 19.4 a lap. Kyle even passed two cars and avoided two wrecks. Good practice session. He decided he wanted to race in the INEX race, but ran out of gas on lap 4. Crew chief mistake, I take full resposibility.

Kyle looks good, car looks good,he does well, we'll see.
We like to thank Don Gross, and The Ash family for letting us borrow some carburators to test Kyle.

update! June 10th, we bought a new carb, and Kyle was out for Friday practice, and ran about 8 laps in the Friday main. Kyle stated tat he would like to run next friady and saturday.

May 2005

LEGEND and Kyle takes time off to make decisions.

We have taken a small hiatus in our racing efforts due to several reasons, Part due to cost of racing, and the lack of major sponsors, and a time to re- evaluate our dedication to racing.
As all well know Kyle took a really hard hit into the wall on his first Legend attempt at the Bullring, it destroyed the car, but also may have damaged Kyle's confidence in driving a racecar. It installed a little fear, that has presented itself as we started tis seaason in the Legends.
This is something that we will have to solve and evaluate and see what the outcome will be.
We appreciate the support from our sponsor 7-ELEVEN at Craig road and Las Vegas Boulevard, And we will keep you all updated.

71 Legend returns to track...But!

Well we finally loaded the Legend in the trailer and made it to the fridaynight practice on April 8th. Kyle ran two practice sessions, and kept the car in one piece, but it did not sound too good.
Bobby Ruppert checked the temps of the pipes to see if a plug was not firing, and suggested we do a compression check or change Carburetor.

We deided not to enter in the race till test were done, to safe the engine.
Carburator has slight daage from crash, not sure if it would affect performance...but it could. Taped it up so no air comes in.
Second Carburator need cleaning, and did not sound better.
Compression test only shows a slight variation of 5lbs. Not sure if that means cylinder is bad.

Will have to ask around to see if this means the engine will need to be rebuild or fixed wich could lead to some new decisions for the 7 team..

Stay tuned.

March 2005,

Crunchtime for the 71 team

As we had hoped to enter at least the last of the Road course races we were in a cruch to get it all together, but small problems continued to be a factor in getting the car ready. Near the end mostly electrical, and with the clutch, both were easy fixes but too late.

We also missed the opening of practices at the Bullring and finally made it on April 8th.
The car is ready...lets go racing!!!!

February 2005

Car Coming together

We are moving slow, but the car is coming together, and will be ready for the Road course in March.
I like to thank Don Gross for letting us borrw the engine hoist, and also answering dozens of questions.
So whats left?
Well the engine is in...need to get some adapters for the oil hoses, and the carburator needs t go in. And finally the body.

Rumors are that All thre divisions in the Legends will run together this season at the Bullring.

January 2005,

Rebuilding the Legend

We have taken out time rebuilding the Legend. The chassis was destroyed of the old 40 car that had belonged to Jerry Jones, but we were able to purchase a chassis, body and engine from Rick Rochell, The parts came from the car driven by the Montes family.

Building the car from the bottom up has been a challenge for me, but little by little things are fitting together and I recon there are several parts that need replacing as they are bend, broken or destroyed in the wreck.
So far i have about 50-60 % of the rebuild done. Electrical, brakes, rear end, springs front and back, seat are in place. Still to do, the drive shaft, steering column, engine, fuel cell, and battery, before we can put the body on. Estimated time mid February we hope to have it done.
We like to take the car out in one of the road course sessions just to test it. Before the season starts at the bullring in March.

We are lookin for sponsors to help us out this season.

LEGEND; A NEW BEGINNING!

Well here we are the new chapter in kyle's young racing career. The Bandoleros have sold, and after a not so perfect start in our first legend we now proceed.
For those unfamiliar Kyle drove his first legend into the backstretch wall just coming out of turn 2 on the Bullring, and left the car and chassis a tangled and bend mess. This was Kyle's first outing at the Bullring in the car, so not the start we had hoped for.

We found a new chassis, but will have to rebuild the car from the bottom up. A challenge I thing we will need to face in order to get comfortable with the mechanics of the car. At the same time I am scared out of my mind.
The chassis we got from Rick Rochell needed a little work, so we had D&D collision center's Jesse worked a little magic.
The chassis in perfect shape we now proceed to the next step.
The electical wiring and hoses from front to rear.
